Energy efficiency will be one of the engines of the Catalan economy recovery. This is one of the conclusions of the round table that had place on the 14th May at La Salle Campus Barcelona – URL. The Symposium counted with the participation of the Assistant Manager of Infrastructures and Urban coordination of the city of Barcelona, Manuel Valdés, the Director of Maintenance and Construction Works of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Lluís Pons, and the President of the Catalan Energy Efficiency Cluster (CEEC), Carles-Xavier Alba.
The President of the Catalan Energy Efficiency Cluster (CEEC), Carles-Xavier Alba, pointed out administrative obstacles as one of the main difficulties in promoting self consumption as part of energy saving in our country. The debate, moderated by Professor Josep Maria Ribes, Director of engineering in La Salle Campus Barcelona – URL, considered the importance of energy efficiency as one of the key economic sectors that will reverse the current economic situation in our country. This wealth generator is an interesting area of expertise for our engineers and architects.
The current regulation has been pointed out as one of the main impediments in the promotion of investment for the implementation of energy efficiency in industry and households in our country. Besides these difficulties, “just by modifying the habits and customs we could reduce the energy bill of any Catalan home by 10% “said Carles-Xavier Alba, President of the CEEC.
On the other hand, the representative of urban Habitat of the city of Barcelona, Manuel Valdés, also highlighted Barcelona city’s use of new technologies dedicated to urban services as well as the commitment to electric vehicles as example in moving forward towards the concept of smart cities.
